IndieBound & Independent Bookshop Week

Independent Bookshop Week 2018 will take place 16 - 23 June. IBW is part of the Books Are My Bag campaign, and seeks to celebrate independent bookshops in the UK and Ireland.  We do this with events, celebrations, reading groups, storytelling, author signings, literary lunches and face painting!  Your local bookshop will have their own way of celebrating, and we encourage you to visit to celebrate with them.

Check out our Twitter account – @IndieBound_UK –  for IBW updates and @booksaremybag for all things IBW and bookshops!
IndieBound is our umbrella independent campaign, where we help promote healthy high streets, shopping local and the benefits that a diverse high street - with a bookshop at its heart of course! - can deliver to a community.  IndieBound started in the USA, and is a key part of the activity of the American Booksellers Association - see more at www.indiebound.org

"Thank God for independent bookshops and everything they do, their expertise, championing of great books and incredible ways of bringing literature, reading and other worlds into communities. I wouldn't be here without the support of extraordinary bookshops, especially independent ones, championing my work, inviting me to read and doing everything they can to ensure that great books don't get lost. I also like it when they tweet entire novels to Piers Morgan."  - Nikesh Shukla

“Independent bookshops are the best places in the world as far as I’m concerned. I remember once going into my local independent bookshop to ask whether, perhaps, they knew of a book about crosswords in literature or perhaps Jane Austen. Ten minutes of intense, informed discussion later I had the perfect present for my father, and I also seemed to have picked up an obscure post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel and a story book for my dyslexic child. Independent bookshops contain the universe: the book that will change your life is in there.” - Emily Barr

“Independent bookshops? What a terrifying thought! Go into a bookshop and anything could happen to you. You could be educated, informed, inspired, transformed, terrified, amused ... you might come out a completely different person to the one you went in as. It happened to me. You have been warned.”
Sally Nicholls
