Get Ready for IBW 2018!

We are excited about a number of other ideas too for this year, and I thought I’d start our bulletins with two more urgent requests and then a bit of an overview of some of the other plans – more will follow!

  1. Book a listing in The Guardian
We are thrilled that our now-traditional Guide to the Best Children’s Booksfor summer is appearing again in the Guardianas a supplement – a great collaboration between publishers and booksellers, the Guide will feature a list of bookshops in the middle, and the titles reviewed are being curated by our own Children’s Bookselling Group.  You will be able to order extra copies of the Guide in due course – and it’s wonderful to have bookshop and kids books feature in the national press during IBW!
There is JUST time for you to book a listing for your shop in the Guide if you have not already done so – email asap to book a slot (£).  I attach the booking form for this.
2We need you (and your stories).
  •          Are you a mother-daughter bookselling team?  We know there are a few of you out there!
  •          Are you someone who had an unusual, quirky, interesting or just plain weird career before you became a bookseller?
  •          Have you been a bookseller for an unusually long time?
  •          Are you a brand new entrant to bookselling?
  •          Have you got a great bookshop backstory?
Let us know and we will pass on the details to Hannah at Midas PR who is helping build the PR for Indie Bookshop Week this year.
Overview of IBW
It’s Father’s Day on Sunday 17th June, so we will help you promote books as great Father’s Day gifts as part of IBW.
IBW also happens to be the first week of Feminist Book Fortnight (16th to 30th  June) so we will be having some fun with that theme, and we do urge you to look at FBF too -
We will be running our ever-popular Bookshop Crawl again on Saturday 16th June, with an added twist this year, which we’ll update you on soon.
The IBW Book Award shortlist is being announced on 14th May, around the same time as you should receive your IBW Point of Sale Kit, which will have plenty of POS to help you promote the titles on the shortlists – again, we have adult, children’s and picture book categories, and our judges are busy reading as I type!
