Pan Macmillan Offers, Authors, Innovation Award

20/04/2018

The project is open to independent booksellers in the UK and Ireland; the project can be store-based or in conjunction with a local community partner, and can be specific to a particular genre but must be books-related.

Booksellers should submit a maximum of two pages (plus supportive images) by emailing salesenquiries@macmillan.com at Pan Macmillan, with the subject line ‘Macmillan 175 Innovation Award’.  The submission should include an overview of their plans, including timings. Booksellers can include a brief overview of any previous projects that demonstrate their strengths and ability to deliver.   The shortlist will be announced in the run up to IBW, and the winner announced at the BA Conference in September.

Shore 2 Shore 2018
And finally, we are really thrilled that Carol Ann Duffy and fellow poets hit the road again with Shore 2 Shore 2018 for IBW.

In 2016, Picador organised the hugely successful Shore to Shore tour in association with the BA in support of the 10th anniversary of Independent Bookshop Week (IBW). The brainchild of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the tour saw Duffy and her hand-picked fellow artists travelling across the UK, performing their work, celebrating independent bookshops and bringing poetry to the heart of the communities that they serve.   1,500 miles were covered, audiences of well over 3,000 attended 15 events and nearly 2,000 books were sold.

The 2018 tour will run through IBW 2018 as part of Pan Macmillan’s ‘Macmillan 175’ celebrations, as well as 21 years of Picador Poetry.   Poets Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke, Imtiaz Dharker and Jackie Kay, along with musical MC John Sampson, will cross the country again, with a special guest spot for a local poet at each event.

Off the Shelf: A Celebration of Bookshops in Verse will be published by Picador in paperback on 14th June 2018, and will be available exclusively to independent bookshops until September,  £8.99 ISBN: 9781509897087.

The following bookshops are taking part in Shore 2 Shore: Griffin Books, Penarth; Topping & Co. Booksellers, Bath; Newham Books, London; The Aldeburgh Bookshop, Aldeburgh ; The Bookshop, Kibworth;  The Book Case, Lowdham; White Rose Books, Thirsk; Atkinson-Pryce Books, Biggar;
Bookpoint, Dunoon.

With best wishes – and don’t forget to let us know what you have planned for IBW this year – you can upload all your bookshop events using Caboodle – if you don’t know how, contact Stacey.croft@booktokens.co.uk
